Hello, friends! Nice to see you again.
I hope your week has been filled with the most beautiful sounds - laughter, celebration, joy, Steffany Gretzinger's new album (!!!!!).
One of my favorite sounds is missing from that list, though - podcasts.
I mentioned in my about me blog post last week that I am a huge fan of podcasts. I listen to them during long drives, when I'm cleaning, on my walks to class, and whenever I need a little extra inspiration.
It's no secret that podcasts have become something of a trend lately, so if you're new to the podcast bandwagon and aren't sure where to start, here are six of my favorite podcasts to get you started, teach you something new, and hopefully make you smile.

1. Stuff You Missed in History Class, How Stuff Works
HOST: Tracy V. Wilson & Holly Frey SUMMARY: Tracy and Holly bring you back in time for a holistic view of a story you've probably never heard of before. Between biographies, artifacts, historical events, and celebrations, Holly and Tracy are a dynamic team of storytellers that I absolutely LOVE to learn from. If you are a history fan, enjoy a good story, or just want to know about things you've never heard of, I cannot recommend SYMHC enough.
HIGHLIGHTS: banter between hosts, interesting stories, frequent uploads and an extensive library
NEW EPISODES: Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays (archived episodes are posted on Saturdays)

HOST: Sam Sanders SUMMARY: Sam hosts a variety of guests each episode to talk about "the week that was." Pop culture, politics, current events, and a fair dose of Beyonce, Sam covers it all. The guests tend to be knowledgeable about that week's main topic and share a bit of insight to help us all understand a little better. This show increasingly focuses on the political happenings of the week, but it's nice to hear conversation about what's going on and the bigger picture of it all.
HIGHLIGHTS: variety of guests, frequent pop culture references, and conversations from different backgrounds and understandings
NEW EPISODES: Tuesday (a deep-dive into one topic
or person) and Friday (a weekly wrap)

HOST: Jessica Honegger SUMMARY: Jessica, an author, young entrepreneur in fair-trade jewelry and all-around beacon of light, shines brightly as she interviews various guests about what it means to step outside of your comfort zone, move past your fears and live a life of meaning. This is another podcast I just started, but WOW - I've already learned so much from her. My favorite episode so far is with Bob Goff, a man "famous for being happy."
HIGHLIGHTS: vibrant guests, real and authentic conversations, inspiration to chase after the things that scare you and motivate you at the same time
NEW EPISODES: Saturday (and sometimes more!)

4. Dressed, How Stuff Works
HOST: April Calahan and Cassidy Zachary SUMMARY: I've always considered myself a fan of fashion and trends, but I never knew where it came from. Dressed is a fairly new podcast (it started in February) but it is quickly becoming a new favorite! April and Cassidy are so energetic and present such compelling information about the history of fashion. I have only listened to a few episodes so far, but I cannot wait to learn so much more from these two!
HIGHLIGHTS: enthusiastic hosts, interviews with designers, and unique perspectives on how fashion and culture combine
NEW EPISODES: Tuesday

5. Up First, NPR
HOST: A variety of NPR voices, including David Greene, Rachel Martin and Steve Inskeep SUMMARY: This is the best morning podcast to listen to. I usually play it on my way to classes in the morning. It's just short enough to fit my walk, give me an update on the news, and set me up for what I need to know that day. I like to imagine it as a "Too Long; Didn't Read" for your ears.
HIGHLIGHTS: shortened stories that tell you what you need to know, insight from experts, giving you the news while briefly explaining its impact
NEW EPISODES: Monday-Friday

HOST: Brooks Wheelan
SUMMARY: A great "just for fun" podcast, Entry Level makes me laugh so hard I forget I'm walking in public by myself with headphones in. Comedian and SNL alum Brooks has the best rough yet silly sense of humor to interview other comedians and friends about their past jobs before becoming famous. It's dumb humor, the language and stories can get a little vulgar at times, and I have no idea what is going on sometimes. However, as an almost-grad, it's a little glimmer of hope that you don't necessarily start at where you want to end up.
HIGHLIGHTS: unscripted conversations between comedians, occasional former SNL cast members, an hour and a half of stories and nonsense
NEW EPISODES: Monday
